Semester 1 : Project Ideas

Idea 1/

Because human breathes nature dies.

This project would take the form of an installation made of 2 connected parts.

On one side, a user could breath through an oxygen mask. And on the other side, there would be a 3d projection/hologram/depth screen(Kinect) of a 3d model of a plant.

Thanks to a sensor, each time the user breath in the mask we can see the 3d model of the plant dying or rotting. But when the user hold his breath the plant become its original shape again.

I also need to think about the sound design part.

Maybe we can add some details in AR ? Or something with UV lights ?

Idea 2/

Something with haptic sensors ?

Idea 3/

Something with optic fiber ?

Idea 4/

WEEK #2

I/ From a simple 3D model to reality

1/ TopMod :

Simple shape out of a cube and some extrusions.

2/ Pepakura :

Unfolding of the 3D model for laser cutting, adding overlaps to glue each face.

3/ Laser Cutting + Reconstruction :

Laser cutting of the .ai file from Pepakura and then folding and gluing  everything to rebuild the 3D model IRL.

II/ Basic 3D Iterations

Using Mathmod, modifying scripts and then applying some effects on the model through C4D :

Spherisation

Torsion

Polygon reduction

Atom

 Mathmod                                                                         Displace effect in C4D

A Project I Made

Cardboard Surfboard

This surfboard's core is made of cardboard. I used the open-source project of Mike Sheldrake.
http://www.sheldrake.net/surfboards/
I cut panels of cardboard with a laser cutter then I assembled it and I finally added the laminating layer made of epoxy resin and fiberglass cloth.
My goal is to make this board a virtual art tool. I want to record, with a GPS tracker, surfing trajectories. Then, render them as strokes into a 3D space and finally visualize this universe of “surfing” curves through a VR headset.
I see this tool as a way of connecting a tangible natural element to a virtual world. This connection could question the boundaries of reality. It also showcases sustainable values: it’s made of green building material, it’s open source and it’s a new building technology.
